Annual Fur Cleaning
No matter how much or little your fur was worn, be sure to have it cleaned at least once a year. Dust and grime collect between the furs hair and if not removed permanent damage will be done to your garment reducing its life span. A qualified furrier has the knowledge and equipment to correctly clean furs and synthetic fur fabrics. Dry cleaning or immersion will rob the furs of their natural oils, dry them out causing them to shed. Linings can be cleaned in the coat, or removed and cleaned separately.
Do not permit dry cleaning methods or immersion to be used on your precious furs, which rob them from their natural luster-oils and cause them to shed and become dried out. Linings can be cleaned in the coat or removed and cleaned separately.
Avoid Friction/Static Electricity
Avoid Friction from other clothing, sliding in and out of car seats. Don't stroke fur, as static electricity and continuous friction from the hand will singe delicate guard hairs.
Avoid Crowding
Hang furs in a cool, uncrowded place on contour wooden or plastic hangers. Never on a hook or a wire hanger.
Don't Sun Your Furs
Long exposure to hot sun or strong light tends to fade anything. Heat dries the oils out of the leather and makes the fur brittle.
Shake Furs
Shake furs gently before and after wearing.
Avoid Bags for Storage
Covers or garment bags, whether plastic, cloth or paper should be used strictly for temporary protection of your furs. Your furs need freely circulating air to prevent the hairs from drying and the tips from getting crushed and breaking off.
Accidental Damage
Any minor repairs should be corrected before they become serious defects. Repairs should be entrusted to experienced, reliable furrier. A qualified furrier who maintains year round service facilities can expertly repair any type of damage, without it showing in the finished garment.
Stoles, Capes and Scarves
The intimacy of these furs and their year round wear, they will be subjected to greater amounts of dust, grit, soot, heat, sunlight and dampness. All of these will shorten the lifetime of your furs without the proper care and service. To insure lasting beauty and to prevent imbedded dirt from damaging the fur, it is important to have your smaller furs cleaned at least once if not twice a year by a qualified furrier.
